Meanwhile I am also looking for strange pics that will make me giggle, maybe even snort…mainly cat pics, I can’t get enough silly pics of cats doing silly things…especially when they’re doing human things like reading or wearing some crazy outfit…dunno what it is, just tickles me ! It also makes me wonder about people who have no sense of humour…what do they do ? I’ve come across a few of these people – FB is full of them – they’re always complaining about something or someone, they find things other people say in jest offensive…they whinge about their kids, they hate it when other people are happy…I’m sure you know a few as well…maybe you are one of them? Do you have a sense of humour? If not why not ? You’re really missing out…maybe you should get one? They’re lots of fun…

Anyhoo,  I decided to have an 80′s party because that was the decade that so much happened for me…left primary school, started high school, did my HSC, had my first serious boyfriend, got my ears pierced, went to Disneyland, went to my first nightclub, got very drunk for the first time…you get the idea right, a lot happened!

But what I really wanted to show you was my birthday cake…I wanted something that was very me and something that was very 80′s…

My great friend and partner in crime Julia, you remember her…she modelled the eviction notice ? Anyways, she offered to make my cake…and make my cake she did ! It was a surprise and she never once gave away any clues at to what colour, what flavour, what shape…she kept it all a secret…so when I saw it…I truly nearly wet myself !

The colour combination is awesome as well as being inspiring – how can you look at this cake and not be inspired to make something as cool as this…whether it be beads, jewellery or even scrapbooking…!

We are currently in our 5th day of summer here in the land down under…which means temperatures of 30C and over day after day after day…temps often reach around 43C with awful humidity and if you don’t have aircon you’re going to suffer!

Usually this time of year we have already had a few weeks of hot days and we’ve packed away our winter woolies (Gracie and I are wearing our winter pj’s like…WTF?)…but this summer is feeling kinda like winter ! This morning it was 11C…!! Apparently last night and tonight are the coldest we’ve had in summer for over 44 years…and the days are no better with temps hitting just on 21C…and rainy and breezy…but you know what…? I’m LOVING it ! I’m probably one of the few Aussies that don’t like the heat and it’s nasty mate humidity…actually I’d go so far as to say I bloody well hate them both! I mean, I like days that are around 28 or 29 not 38 or 39 or 43…its uncomfortable, it’s annoying and it makes people do silly things (maybe just an excuse for when I’m really really stoopid…blame it on the heat )…

So anyways, I’m just happy that it’s cool…although it makes me wonder how far this weather will go…will it snow? Will we have our first white Christmas here in Sydney? Oh how awesome that would be ! BUT I have a feeling that the heat and that mean old humidity are just around the corner!

I’m not sure what it is exactly that makes me go all la la at this time of the year…just a buzzy feeling of excitedness (look, I made a new word).

We put our first sets of lights up last weekend ( I know, I know, it’s November) and this weekend I think we’ll start to put more decorations up…We’ve wrapped our letter box in bright solar LED lights that dance when the sun goes down…we’ve put up some really cool icicle lights (notice the pun?) and we have some new blue lights for the back deck…then there’s the metres and metres of rope light, the tree lights, the window lights, the little pressies that light up, the baubles, the stars, the tree skirt, the garland, the candy canes, the santa hats, the reindeer antler head bands, the flashing red noses, the wrapping paper, the stockings, the sticky tape, the cards, the tinsel – I LOVE the smell of tinsel, it has the smell of many festive seasons gone by…and then there’s the tree ! Our gorgeous tree that I love so much that when she is dressed in her best I will do a blog just for her !

Every year our decorations & lights collection gets bigger and bigger…every year we need more extension cords and more power boards…we always pick up more decorations along the way, Gracie gets one or two or three advent calendars with sickly pieces of chocolate in them…

And someone always buys me Lindt chocolates, cos they’re my fave (hint hint if you’re reading!)…

There’s more, always more…the list is long and I will report back on the progress of crazy!

And I thought to myself – WHY?

Why do I have these? What do they mean to me?

I certainly don’t look at them everyday…I don’t use them…they’re up high and kinda tucked away on top of the fridge…so, really only people over 5 10″ can actually see them…

But it got me wondering – WHY?

How do I feel when I look at them? Well, to be honest I don’t really think of her when I look at them, I think more of where I got these things, where I was at the time I saw them !

Don’t get me wrong, I love Marilyn (the movie star, not the…I want to say singer but I can’t…you know who I mean right…) !
I love everything about her and she’s my favourite star of all time…I have books about her life & coffee table books filled with her stunning photos, and having those books make some kinda sense to me…

But on Monday as I stared at these trinkets, I started to wonder if I should keep them… none of these have ever been used…like it’s some kind of shrine to her or something…but I never knew this woman…wish I had, but no we were never friends…and then I thought like only a crazy woman can…well, maybe this is my way of being her friend…maybe she can sit on the top of my fridge and watch us go about our day…so I ran with that crazy thought and gave everything a good old dusting down…and I moved her closer to the front where she is more noticeable…and tried to forget the price I’d get for some of these on ebay…oh well, she is here to stay !

P.S.
I just wanted to give you an update on the baby we’ve all been waiting for ! Baby Lachlan was born yesterday at 9.39pm and mum and bub are doing fine ! I guess the eviction notice t shirt worked…his 14 days would have been up tomorrow !

My good friend Julia is very pregnant…she has just two weeks to go and to say she’s over it would be an understatement ! So yesterday she talked about serving the baby with an eviction notice, time to vacate the premises please BABY ! We thought it was funny and decided to take it even further (as we always do) and asked google to please show us some real eviction notices…this led to photoshop (as it always does) and after a few false starts and some rewording, we were ready to iron on our design…I think it turned out pretty good…and it’s hilarious watching people reading Julia’s belly, especially strangers who try to read it without her knowing !

When I asked her what she imagined this tea party to be like she said “pink, with real tea cups”…ok awesome!

So mum set about gathering little bits and pieces…and here’s what we come up with:

We converted our dinning room into a little girls “tea room”…

Everyone had a vintage tea cup and name card !

They also had marshmallows dipped in white chocolate & sprinkles (pink, of course)

The table was complete now that Barbie had arrived ! Thanks to my good friend Bernadette who made Gracie’s awesome cake! The ladies also had fairy bread and cuccumber and cheese sandwiches cut into the shapes of teapots and teacups!

Gracie had an awesome time !

I could talk about my beads but, I always talk about them!

Then there’s the weather here in Aus at the moment, it’s been pretty cold…we have pretty much gone straight into winter…but that’s not really interesting is it?

Mmmm, then there’s what’s happening in the news, but the news these days can be quite depressing and I find myself reading/watching it less and less…so lets not talk about that…

Ummm, I could talk about my daughters school disco that’s coming up in July…it’s a christmas in July theme…so I need to come up with ideas to decorate the school hall and make it all christmassy and snowy…so if you have any ideas let me know…

I could talk about garden gnomes…I was asked today what my thoughts on gnomes were…I like them, I just wish they were a little more, shall we say…controversial? You know, funnier…ruder…then I’d have a garden full of them!

But lately, I’ve been a wee bit bored of them…I needed something new…something…different! So I thought I’d make some lampwork cabachons…and make them I did!! Now, what to do with them…I’ll put a few up for adoption and I’ll keep a few to play with, see what my imagination comes up with…I wish I could do that teeny weeny bead embroidery that creative/patient people do…these cabs would look great embroidered but alas I am too chicken to try it, have no idea where I would start….mmm, might just stick to lampwork and leave the experts to embroidery!

Here is the first one, I’ve called this “Picasso”…

This one is called “Goldstone”…for obvious reasons!
